History
The Beginning
Static was formed in the new year's eve of 1996, when two small amateur
groups decided to merge together and form a bigger group to seek glory.
After a long argument, the group was named Static. Only a few of the
original members are still in Static, these are Prowler, Maza and
Cytict. After a while we met Jaffa and asked him to join us (he made
great heavy metal music at the time).
Members Come And Go
A long time went when we tried to organize the making of something big.
Some members got the boot for their inactivity or futility but after
a while we got some new faces as Hyphen and Ravage (coding) and then a
couple of Maza's friends, Funky and Idiot (graphics) to fill in the
missing parts of a fully functional demo group. Finally we had a working
'community'. Sergeant (not anymore in Static) was the smallest guy and
named as our mascot :).
First Meeting
We held a meeting at Itäkeskus, Helsinki in the summer of 1996 to group us
together and to get to know each other (only Hyphen was missing, he lived
too far away) and desing our coming demo. Well, we got our ideas on a
paper but unfortunately that was it. Afterwards we held a couple more
meetings at Itäkeskus, but only for the fun of it. Not anything to do with
the demoscene :).
Assembly'96
The first time when we all were same time at the same place was at the
Assembly'96 held in Helsinki, Finland at the end of summer. All we had
ready for the competitions was just graphics and music. We hadn't got
ourselves together to make a demo yet, so we missed that. We didn't have
any major success. All we did was just advertising ourselves and so on.
Pancakes
Another bigger meeting came again, it was held at Sergeant's father's
firm, on the top floor (we had a great balcony :). Well, it wasn't a
big success. Maza and Idiot came for a day from Hanko and the rest of
us spent the night there (playing games by network and i made pancakes
in the middle of the night in the balcony :). That was Jaffa, Sergeant,
Ravage, I (Prowler) and Falcon (my twin brother, agh). Only Hyphen and
Funky were missing. Jaffa made some music, i think that was all of it :).
Hanko Meeting
On the winterholiday in the beginning of 1997 we held a meeting to
celebrate our first anniversary to Idiot's house in Hanko, Finland. The
original meaning of this meeting was to create the long awaited, our
first demo. But as it was feared, half of the group went off boozing
(Koff, officially the best beer in the world) to the beach with Pege, a
friend from Hanko, who was also at Idiot's place. So all we got together
was a Windows Screen Saver for DOS (woow :) and some music, some graphics
and i made an ANSI (by the force of Cytict, because he wanted a good ANSI
for his board :). And drunk we were (Jaffa, Pege, Cytict, I and Falcon).
There are also available two reports from this meeting, written by Jaffa and Maza.
Serious Business
Finally, after a long time of waiting, our first demo got to go to a
party and take part in a competition. It was coded only by Hyphen and we
missed some cool effects from Ravage and unfortunately the demo had a few
serious bugs because of the hurry it was made in (Hyphen started to gather
it together 2 days before the deadline) to be ready at the party place, it
came eleventh at the Juhla IVb in Raahe, Finland.
Waiting For The Summer
Sergeant just left Static, because he lost the interest and we got our
home pages now by Jaffa's account and he had his own little projects.
Which brings us nicely here.
New Members
In May, we got a new member, Jmp to fill up our coding division. And now
in June a former familiar coder also joined us, Rodex. Our demo came 8th
at Abduction '97, but as usually, it was again coded in a little hurry and
we missed some of the best effects. They were added in the release version,
which is available here.
